Project Overview

A mobile app was created to help football fans and athletes improve their penalty kicks using AI and computer vision. The app measures ball speed, spin, and trajectory using only a smartphone camera and lets users compete with others worldwide.

Problem & Goals

The original version of the app had serious technical debt, making it unscalable, difficult to maintain, and not suitable for presentation to investors. The goal was to:

  • Redesign the UI for better clarity and usability

  • Rebuild the app to match investor expectations and ensure global scalability

  • Enable real-time video analysis using only a smartphone camera

  • Support a seamless experience for both casual users and professional athletes

Process & Solution

  • Researched user needs and identified gaps in the previous version

  • Mapped key flows for recording, competition, and feedback

  • Developed a bold, sporty visual style and consistent design system

  • Designed an interface for video capture, scoring, and AI feedback

  • Delivered interactive prototypes to validate core user journeys

Outcomes & Metrics

  • Live in the App Store with stable performance and strong usability

  • Used by 50,000+ players at the Norway Cup

  • Adopted in daily training by both amateur and pro players

  • Users praised its simplicity and motivating competitive features

Next Steps

After launching the redesigned MVP, the next steps involved tracking key engagement metrics such as session frequency, feature usage, and competition participation. The team planned to run usability testing with both amateur and professional players, gather qualitative feedback on video analysis features, and analyze drop-offs in recording and scoring flows. Insights from real-world usage would guide the next iteration focused on refining AI feedback, expanding training modes, and optimizing the app for consistent, long-term engagement.
