Project Overview

A mobile app was created to support dairy farmers in managing milk collection. Integrated with an existing system used by dairy plants, the app provides real-time updates on pick-ups and ensures smooth communication between farmers and dairies.

Problem & Goals

Farmers lacked visibility into milk collection schedules, leading to miscommunication and operational inefficiencies. The main goals were:

  • Improve transparency and coordination between farms and dairies

  • Reduce errors in the collection process

  • Deliver real-time status updates in a simple and accessible format

  • Ensure the solution fits seamlessly into farmers’ daily routines

Process & Solution

  • Conducted stakeholder interviews to identify key user needs

  • Mapped user flows around core tasks like pick-up tracking and status checking

  • Focused on clarity and ease of use given the rural and offline context

  • Designed a clean, minimal interface with clear notifications and status indicators

  • Built high-fidelity prototypes for quick validation and testing with end users

Outcomes & Metrics

  • Over 3,000 users joined within the first six months

  • 90% of surveyed users gave the app the highest rating

  • Communication between farmers and dairies became more efficient and error-free

  • The app helped streamline operations and build stronger trust across the supply chain

Next Steps

Following initial user testing, the next phase focused on evaluating how farmers interacted with the core features such as pickup tracking, notifications, and real-time status updates. Planned steps included collecting structured feedback from field users, measuring adoption across different regions, and analyzing task completion rates in offline scenarios. Insights would help optimize the app’s clarity and reliability in rural environments, improve trust in communication with dairies, and inform future iterations including expanded reporting and route planning features.
